Wells Fargo plans national rollout of mobile-ATM functionality in 2016

Customers will be able to use their mobile device to designate the type and amount of an ATM transaction prior to arriving at a Wells Fargo ATM.

Wells Fargo has announced plans for a nationwide rollout of mobile prestaging for ATM transactions in the second half of 2016. The announcement follows the conclusion of a successful pilot test of the technology in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Phoenix, Arizona.

According to a report by the Charlotte Observer, Wells Fargo's "virtual card" feature will be integrated into the bank's mobile app.

Customers will be able to use the app on their mobile device to designate the type and amount of an ATM transaction prior to arriving at a Wells Fargo ATM.

Once there, the customer simply enters a PIN and a unique transaction code generated by the app in order to complete the transaction card-free.

Wells Fargo currently is testing contactless technology that allows customers to initiate a cardless ATM transaction just by tapping their NFC-enabled smartphone against the ATM.
