A Fayetteville, Arkansas Walmart store is deploying self-checkout counters to provide a quicker transaction experience as well as a safer one for consumers in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

There will be cashiers and employees on hand to help customers through the new checkout experience as well as to check out consumers not interested in using the new approach, according to a Fox Business report.

If the self-checkout experience proves popular it could be rolled out to more stores. The initiative comes a month after the retailer deployed a touch-free payment system called Walmart Pay.
