Wal-Mart sues Visa in chip-and-signature spat
Wal-Mart Stores Inc has filed suit against Visa USA Inc in a complaint alleging that the retailer is being pushed to use chip-and-signature rather than chip-and-PIN transactions so that Visa can route transactions over its own networks and reap the profits.
According to a report by Bloomberg, "The world’s largest retail chain said in its complaint that the chip-and-PIN protocol is more secure and would allow it to route transactions across less-expensive networks."
In some cases, PIN debit networks charge half as much as the Visa signature network for the same transaction.
The case is Wal-Mart Stores Inc v. Visa USA Inc, 652530/2016.
