Visa Europe to roll out V.me digital wallet this fall

Visa Europe said its V.me by Visa mobile wallet will be launching this fall, making online payments easier regardless of how a customer chooses to make a purchase, either at home or on a mobile device. Consumers in the U.K., Spain and France will be the first to have access to the mobile wallet product.

V.me will be made available initially through Visa's member banks and will allow consumers to load multiple cards into a secure digital wall that can be used to make purchases on a PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone, Visa Europe said.

"Our intention is that V.me will ultimately be able to incorporate any or all of our new payment technologies, allowing our members to deliver the best possible payments experience whether face-to-face, online or in a mobile environment," said Mariano Dima, EVP for Visa Europe's product and marketing solutions. "This comprehensive service suite, delivered under the V.me umbrella, will offer an easy way to benefit from the scale, security and reliability of Visa."

According to Visa Europe, the new V.me product is meant to streamline checkout processes and improve conversion rates and shopper satisfaction.

"V.me sits at the heart of Visa's future of payments," Dima said. "For the first time, consumers and retailers will have a streamlined online checkout experience through an acceptance mark that offers industry-leading security and, when a Visa card is used in a V.me wallet, the same protection and rights that come with any Visa card transaction."

Along with the V.me announcement, Visa Europe said payment processor WorldPay will be a key development partner in the delivery of the V.me service in the UK. The company said additional development and launch partners in each target market will be announced soon.

"Shoppers are driving the demand for more convenient, secure and safe ways to pay online," said Phillip McGriskin, chief product officer, WorldPay. "V.me is being developed specifically to address those needs."

McGriskin said WorldPay has partnered with Visa Europe to ensure the digital wallet's proposition matches merchant requirements and is an attractive and practical digital wallet solution in a market that is becoming quickly crowded.
