Virgin Atlantic tests iBeacons in London
Virgin Atlantic is testing an iBeacon at London's Heathrow Airport as part of an effort to give travelers a chance to customize their experience, according to a report in the International Business Times.
The airline placed the iBeacons throughout areas where it operates in Heathrow Terminal 3, according to the report. The devices send information to customers who have downloaded a compatible Apple iPhone application.
The airline will ping travelers with push notifications such as a welcome messages, boarding time reminders and the ability to access a boarding pass from the iPhone's lock screen when approaching the boarding area, the report said.
