Verizon's 4G helps 3-D kiosks personalize shopping experience

A new breed of mobile commerce applications from TelePresence Tech, a 3D telepresence innovator,  Verizon Wireless and Alcatel-Lucent is on display this week at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

As part of the Retail Zone section of the Verizon booth, two TelePresence Tech 4G Kiosks illustrate how 3-D telepresence can be integrated with cloud computing and ultra-high bandwidth 4G LTE to create an interactive, personalized shopping experience to benefit both customers and retailers, according to a company press release.

"The Verizon 4G LTE network expands the reach of our 3D TelePresence systems to transmit a customer service representative to appear as a life-size person in a three-dimensional setting to provide a natural live interaction with a customer," Duffie White, chief executive officer of TelePresence Tech, said in the release. "This 4G Kiosk solution gives manufacturers the opportunity to reach customers in stores, shopping malls and public places with an impressive sense of presence."

The TelePresence Tech 4G Kiosk has a 3-D display that can feature an endless aisle of products to extend beyond the inventory within the store. The kiosks are connected to the cloud over the Verizon 4G LTE network to access the store's full line of products and provide the customer with the opportunity to create their own profile and mobile wallet.

The kiosks also have NFC (near field communications) technology to help deliver a personalized retail experience in store locations and at home. In the CES demo, the TelePresence Tech 4G Kiosks are part of the Virtual Personal Stylist demonstration -- supported by Verizon Wireless and Alcatel-Lucent -- where a consumer receives a coupon through an NFC-enabled device that can then be redeemed via kiosk. The Virtual Personal Stylist is a concept from the ng Connect Program, founded by Alcatel-Lucent now with 125 member companies, including TelePresence Tech.
