Venmo adds new features to mobile app

Company updates app to provide extra layer of security for iPhone users.

Venmo has added three new features to its mobile P2P payments app that are meant to make it easier to use while providing an extra layer of security for consumers.

Users can now sign into the app with Apple's Touch ID feature on the iPhone 5S, 6 and 6 Plus. Venmo will still provide users the options to sign in using a PIN.

Linking a bank account to the app to use as a funding source is now as simple as entering the username and password a consumer uses to sign into online banking for the four participating banks: Bank of America, Chase, Citibank and Wells Fargo.

Venmo also added to its social functions with Twitter-style mentions that appear in the transaction feed in order to communicate with other users.

"With today’s release, you can now mention other people in your payments to get them involved," Venmo wrote on its blog. "Go out to dinner with a group of friends? Send a payment on behalf of more than one person? Make them a part of your story by mentioning them in a payment or comment."
