UL accredited as MIFARE test center

Possibly best known as the people who test consumer products, UL will now test smartcards and mobile devices. The company announced that it has been accredited as a MIFARE test center, ensuring devices will work across third party MIFARE implementations.

“UL is very pleased to provide MIFARE certification services. The UL MIFARE Test Center will fit extremely well within our test center strategy," said Dirk Jan van den Heuvel, managing director of UL's transaction security service line.

"We are confident that our experience from performing similar certifications of behalf of MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Global Platform as well as our dedication and commitment, will bring positive results," van den Heuvel said.

MIFARE is a brand of smartcard technologies owned by NXP, the company that invented NFC. The technology, based on NFC standards, is used in deployments for transit, access and mobile wallet applications around the world. According to UL, than 1,000 business partners are part of the open MIFARE community and ecosystem.

As a test center, UL's facilities will be used to guarantee that deployments from various service providers and vendors operate together seamlessly.
