The spending limit for contactless card payments will rise in the U.K. from £30 ($35.91) to £45 ($53.87), with national roll-out on April 1, according to UK Finance, a banking and finance collective organization. The decision follows that of other European nations this week and is part of the banking industry's response to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Consumers who spend more than £45 ($53.87) can pay with chip and PIN, cash and mobile payments which have no limit when authenticated by biometric technologies.
