Mobile payments have barely emerged, but British early adopters can make sure their bases are covered.

According to the U.K.'s Independent, the first insurance policy for mobile phone payment technology fraud is now available from insurance2go.co.uk.

"We're responding to a demand from customers who like the idea of being able to ditch their cards but are worried what will happen if the handset is lost or stolen," said Duncan Spencer, managing director of insurance1go.co.uk, in the article.

The U.K. has seen the launch of several mobile payment programs in the past few months, and inurance2go.co.uk wants consumers to be prepared for the eventual spate of fraud that must necessarily come in the wake of wider adoption of the technology.

"We want to make sure our customers are fully covered for all eventualities," Spencer told the Independent.
