UK bus operator brings mobile payments aboard
A U.K. bus operator has rolled out a mobile payments trial, according to the Lancashire Telegraph. Transdev, which operates a variety of bus lines, will let East Lancashire customers pay through the Barclays Pingit platform.
Through a service from mobile ticketing provider Corethree, passengers will be able to pay for fares instantly from their mobile phones. A spokesman for the bus operator said the move is expected to save money and help keep ticket prices low.
The Pingit app allows peer-to-peer payments, and users can also buy goods by scanning a QR code in advertisements or at point-of-sale.
