UAE company partners with Oberthur to launch 'wearable' contactless payments

UAE Exchange, a global remittance, foreign exchange and payment products brand has partnered with Oberthur Technologies to launch a prepaid account that's linked to a mini contactless card users can slip onto a watchband, keyring, or other, similar item.

The companies announced the device today at the Seamless Middle East Conference in Dubai, according to a press release.

UAE Exchange will offer the wearable contactless payment option to selected 100 Gocash prepaid card customers across the UAD. These cards can be loaded with 100 UAE dirhams ($27), according to the announcement.

Flybuy MiniFOB technology comprises a mini contactless card of approximately 1/2 inch by 1 inch. It includes a 2FF SIM, an antenna, and a chip with payment functionality.

The MiniFOB can be inserted into a prepaid card, leather wristband, keychain, jewelry item, fitness tracker, watch or any other wearable item or device. The card uses MasterCard contactless functionality and was developed by Oberthur.
