Two venture capital firms, TomorrowVentures and CompuCredit Holdings Corp., announced investments in Atlanta-based Twitpay, a startup offering payment tools to customers through the Twitter microblogging service. 

In the announcement, the two finance companies said Twitpay will use the investment to expand its services into mobile payments, using Twitter's prevalence as a mobile network. Currently, Twitpay's services are aimed at social gaming developers and non-profits.

Court Coursey, managing partner of Tomorrow Ventures said, "We are very excited about our investment in Twitpay. The convergence of social media and mobile payments will drive tremendous opportunities in the social media value chain. We believe that Twitpay, with its sophisticated payments platform and mobile wallet technology, is positioned to be the dominant player in this segment."
