Trunkbow expanding mobile payments presence in growing Chinese market

Trunkbow International Holdings Ltd., a Chinese provider of mobile payments, is expanding its activities and investment in China. The company announced it's investing RMB 72 million ($11.3 million) and partnering with telecom China Communications Services Corporation Ltd. to build a new data center in Guangzhou, China.

Through the new facility, the two companies will offer Chinese businesses cloud-based services like hosting, mobile payments and security. Other offerings will include value-added services such as couponing, promotions and location-based services.

"We believe there is a tremendous, untapped market opportunity among China's 56 million small businesses who lack the resources needed to deploy a full-scale [mobile payment] offering, making hosted services such as these ideal for this large and under-served segment of the market," said Qiang Li, Trunkbow's CEO.

According to Li, Trunkbow's services are a low-risk tool that will allow merchants to begin offering Chinese consumers the option of handset-based payments both online and at the point-of-sale.

"We are confident that the hosted services model will greatly expand the addressable market and enhance our merchant acquisition capabilities as we continue to drive the advancement of China's [mobile payment solutions] market," Li said

Trunkbow is establishing a significant mobile payment presence in the growing Chinese market. The company currently supplies mobile payment solutions to all three Chinese mobile telecom operators as well as a network of resellers in a number of Chinese provinces.
