TransferWise selects Wirecard as debit card issuer

TransferWire, a money transfer platform, has selected Wirecard to issue a debit card for customer's borderless accounts. The company's platform allows customers to hold and convert 28 currencies, according to a press release.

"TransferWise was looking to extend its borderless account by adding a multi-currency debit card. This card will allow customers to access their borderless account around the world without any hidden charges," Tom Jennings, managing director at Wirecard, said in the release.

TransferWire privately launched the debit card service to 1,000 existing customers, with a full launch planned for later in 2018.

"Our mission is to make money move without borders, and the borderless debit card is a vital step in bringing that mission to a wider audience," Jeremy Buttner, borderless banking lead at TransferWise, said in the release. "Wirecard is helping us to take the product, and its benefits, to markets that badly need the service more quickly than we’d have been able to otherwise."
