Thai telco will roll out mobile payments service
TOT Plc, Thailand's state-run telco, is getting into the mobile payments game, according to the Bangkok Post. The MNO, through its subsidiary ACT Mobile Co., will launch JustPay early next year.
ACT CEO Apirak Preechayasomboon told the newspaper that the service will be a full-function solution that works on all digital devices, including smartphones, tablets, PCs, printers and card readers, providing a mobile wallet, mobile point of sale and web-based customer relationship management.
The mobile wallet will let Android users pay utility bills, while the mPOS system will let shoppers use debit and credit cards to pay retailers that use TOT's iOS platform.
The move is an effort to position TOT as a "national mobile payments gateway," CEO Yongyuth Wattanasin said, and to offset its pending loss of revenue as TOT loses its three private telecom concessions.
This year, 18.39 million credit card holders have spent 12 trillion baht ($375.5 billion U.S.).
