Telco aims to bring mobile payments to Azerbaijan
The Azerbaijani mobile operator Azercell Telekom plans to launch a mobile payment service for subscribers, according to Trend, which reports that the announcement came Friday during a news conference.
The service, which is set for rollout by mid-2014, will handle payments for goods and services in the country, as well as for money transfers within Azerbaijan and abroad.
According to Trend, Azercell Telecom was founded in 1996 and claims 53 percent of the nation's mobile market, covering nearly all of the country. Azercell's network covers 99.8 percent of the country's population. The telco has an estimated 4.4 million subscribers, the news outlet said.
