Sybase 365 partners with Qtel to enable mobile wallet

Mobile messaging and m-commerce services provider Sybase 365 announced a new partnership with Qatar Telecom (Qtel) to provide its mobile wallet (mWallet) software to enable Qtel's new Money Money service.

"Today’s global economy is becoming a mobile economy with consumers requiring convenient access to transaction channels anytime, anywhere," said Matthew Talbot, senior vice president, mCommerce, Sybase 365. "Our partnership with the Qtel Group to provide a leading mWallet solution is pioneering the way customers interact with their financial institutions and communities."

According to the announcement, the Qtel Mobile Money service will allow customers of Qtel to use mobile devices to transfer money, top-up credit, and make payments both domestically and abroad.

Qtel Mobile Money service will support all mobile channels, including SMS messaging, mobile browser, and downloadable client, on any mobile device with any currency.

Qtel has a large presence across markets in the Middle East and North Africa, markets that have a high number of residents and foreign workers regularly transferring funds overseas, Sybase 365 said. Many of these workers are underbanked, and have relied on the services of money transfer kiosks to handle their money transfer needs in the past.
