Swedish company Seamless adds P2P feature to its mobile payment tool

Seamless, a Swedish provider of payment solutions, announced it's adding person-to-person payment functionality to SEQR, its QR code-based mobile payment product. The new features will let users make payments to private individuals directly into their normal bank accounts, free and independent of bank affiliation, the company said.

"Seamless is now leading the global technology race," said Emil Wikstrom, chief of the SEQR business for Seamless. "Our latest SEQR function adds the capability of sending money to someone else's bank account, simply and without charge. The system is perfect for sharing a restaurant bill, for example, or buying items on Internet trading sites."

SEQR, which lets users pay by scanning a QR code at the point of sale with a mobile device, was launched late last year in Sweden. Seamless said it's in the process of launching the product internationally.

The new P2P feature is available to Swedish users of SEQR by downloading the new version of the app. To send money, the sender simply enters the recipient's mobile number. Funds can be received by anyone, whether or not he or she has the SEQR app installed. A message to the recipient's phone offers an invitation to download the SEQR app where bank account information can be securely stored. The information is never revealed to the sender.

Once sent, money is withdrawn from the sender's billing account linked to SEQR. Collector, a Seamless transaction exchange, handles the actual transaction. Seamless said its transaction exchange network already handles more than 3.1 billion transactions globally.
