Survey: Canadians have strong interest in self-service

Fifty-three percent of Canadian consumers want to choose whether to conduct routine financial transactions at an ATM, at a branch or online, according to a recent survey released by NCR Corp.

The poll of 500 Canadians also found that 49 percent like the option of checking bank balances on their smart phones, and 43 percent would like to receive an instant text message or email alert if there is suspicious activity involving their accounts.

In addition, the survey found that 23 percent want to use their smart phones as an electronic wallet to complete low-value transactions.

The findings reflect consumer enthusiasm for the growing range of self-service options available throughout Canada, NCR officials said.

BuzzBack LLC, a New York-based market research firm, conducted the survey for NCR, which is the world's largest ATM manufacturer based on annual shipments. NCR has its headquarters in New York City.
