Stockholm set for largest Bitcoin conference

The Stockholm School of Economics will host a conference to discuss the future of Bitcoin, and with 250 people reportedly signed up, it could be Scandinavia's largest cryptocurrency event thus far, according to Coin Desk.

The Scandinavian region — Sweden, Denmark and Norway — has seen a fair share of Bitcoin action, the site said, from regulators and from startups. Sweden and Denmark have exchanges, and Denmark will host a conference on Nov. 28. Finland, not technically included in Scandinavia but formerly part of Sweden, is seen at the forefront of Bitcoin.

Sweden classified Bitcoin as a means of payment last year and may be ready to make a ruling on sales tax, the site said.

"Of all the Scandinavian countries, Sweden has a long-standing history of dealing with truly disruptive technologies with companies like Skype, Spotify, Klarna and of course The Pirate Bay," Frank Schuil, CEO of Swedish exchange Safello, told Coin Desk. "This has created a regulatory landscape that is very responsive and helpful toward companies like Safello. Innovation is embraced rather than rejected."
