Square's product head jumps to Kleiner Perkins

Silicon Valley investment firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers has snagged Megan Quinn, the (now former) head of product for mobile POS company Square. Quinn just joined Square last year to oversee the company's product portfolio. She joined Square after seven years with Google.

Quinn will be joining Kleiner Perkins as a partner in its Digital group starting in late June, the company said.

"Joining Kleiner Perkins is an incredible opportunity at such an exciting time for the firm and technology industry," said Quinn in a statement.

Calling Quinn "a rising star in the consumer technology and start-up community,KPCB partner Ted Schlein noted in the announcement that Quinn is coming out of one of KPCB's portfolio companies. The firm was involved in Square's $100 million Series C funding last year.

In the game of musical chairs that mobile payments has become, this is one of the first high profile executives to leave Square, a company better known for wooing talent. Alyssa Cutright recently left PayPal as head of North American product to join Square to lead its international expansion efforts. Rob von Behren, a founding engineer of Google Wallet, left Google to join Square in April.
