Square will sell mPOS tablet stands at Staples
Square announced a deal to sell its Square Stand in Staples, according to Tech Crunch. Square Stand is a $299 piece of hardware that turns a merchant's iPad into a mobile POS with card-swiping capabilities.
The agreement covers 1,000 Staples locations and follows other arrangments to sell the device at Best Buy and Apple stores. It also is available online from Square.
As Tech Crunch notes, the deal is significant because it further shows Square's commitment to move beyond its original product for smartphones, putting it in position to control more merchant services through the larger screens on tablets.
In-store demo units will allow potential buyers to test drive the Stand and its software, and Square is offering a $200 Staples gift card for purchasers in November.
