Square launches in-seat food and drink ordering at Washington Nationals games

Square Inc. has launched a partnership deal with Levy Restaurants and the Washington Nationals to allow fans of the Major League Baseball franchise to order food and beverages from their seats, according to a press release.

Fans using the company’s Caviar Pickup app and the new Square point-of-sale terminal can order food and drinks — including beer and wine, for fans 21 and older — while watching the game in the stands. They will be notified with a beep when their order is ready.

Roving concessions hawkers are carrying the Square terminal with them during a pilot phase. The terminal can accept credit cards or digital wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay.

"The Nationals take pride in delivering a first class experience," Allan Gottlieb, chief operating officer at Lerner Sports Group, said in the release. "So we are excited to work with an innovative partner like Square to offer our fans more payment options in the stands and a new ordering method via the Caviar concession stand."

The concession stand features a rotating list of Caviar partner restaurants. During the opening day game with the Mets, the featured option was Tiger Fork, whose menu includes Hong Kong-style Chinese food. Other options will include biscuits from Mason Dixon and ramen from Toki Underground.
