Square experiences outage
After announcing a flat rate last week, Square flat-lined last night. The mobile payment processor's platform went down for about an hour yesterday evening, leaving its merchants without the ability to accept payments, according to The Next Web.
Square spokesperson Aaron Zamost told TNW, "Some users experienced a connectivity issue late this evening, during which time our website was inaccessible and some payments could not be processed."
The outage was unfortunately timed for Square, given the added scrutiny the already overscrutinized startup has received since signing a $25 million deal with coffee retailer Starbucks. The reliability and security of mobile payments continue to be primary impediments to adopton and Square's issue underscores that concern.
However, Zamost said the issue was quickly resolved.
