Square debuts in Australia

The country marks the fourth market for Square, joining the U.S., Canada and Japan.

Square Tuesday announced the availability of its payment processing and hardware solutions in Australia. The country marks the fourth market for Square, joining the U.S., Canada and Japan, according to a press release.

"With Square Reader in Australia, we're empowering local sellers with the tools they need to start, run, and grow their businesses," said Jack Dorsey, CEO of Square. "This is an important step for our company and an exciting moment for a market so committed to innovation and an entrepreneurial small business community."

Sqaure partnered with Cuscal, the Australian transactional banking services company, to distribute the device to merchants. 

"Our partnership with Square is a perfect example of skills complementing each other," said Craig Kennedy, managing director of Cuscal. "Square has brought a fantastic new product to market which we think will help thousands more companies offer a better payment experience to their customers."
