Siri's functionality may some day extend to ATMs

The patent office has made public Apple's patent for its iPhone bot, revealing some of the company's plans for Siri's future, according to a report at the Atlantic Wire. These could include the ability to assist ATM users, one Apple patent application suggests. Though the patent does not make clear whether it’s a mobile payment function, voice interaction or some other capability, the patent does specifically mention "automated teller machines" as something for which Siri will "provide assistance."

Other patent applications indicate that Siri could play a future role in additional day-to-day tasks:

E-shopping — iPhone users can't make purchases via Siri at present, but one patent suggests this will be coming. It specifically mentions "E-commerce (including online purchases of items such as books, DVDs, music, and the like)."

Recommendations — One patent suggests Siri may be configured or designed to include capability for identifying, generating, and/or providing personalized recommendations for activities, products, services, source of entertainment, time management, or any other kind of recommendation service.

Remote control — The patent application suggests that Siri may some day be "operating devices locally or remotely” (e.g., controlling light, temperature and home security devices, playing music or video, etc.).
