Rogers Communications shipping mobile payment chips next week
It looks like Canada's getting an NFC-enabled mobile payment product next week. An internal memo from Rogers Communications sent to Mobile Syrup indicates SIM chips for its suretap mobile payment product will be sent to stores beginning Monday, October 15.
Suretap is the mobile payment partnership between Rogers and Canadian bank CIBC. The SIM chips will work with NFC-enabled BlackBerry phones and securely hold payment credentials that are transmitted when a customer taps the device on a point-of-sale terminal to pay for purchases.
