Robinhood raises $323 million in Series E for commission-free mobile investing

Robinhood Markets Inc., announced that it raised $323 million in Series E funding at a company valuation of $7.6 billion, led by DST Global, according to a recent blogpost.

The Robinhood mobile app allows users to invest commission-free in stocks, options, ETFs and cryptocurrency,

Since May 2018, when the company announced Series D funding, the company has made several changes to grow the business, including the launch of its own clearing system, called Clearing by Robinhood; the launch of Robinhood Gold, which includes margin investing and access to Nasdaq Level 2 market data; and the launch of Robinhood Snacks, a provider of market-level news that operated under the name MarketSnacks until Robinhood acquired it.

Robinhood also expanded Robinhood Crypto, a platform which allows users to invest in bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, to more than 30 states.

The company was forced to make changes to its planned checking and savings accounts in December after regulators raised questions about whether they were covered by insurance.

Participants in the round included Ribbit Capital, NEA, Sequoia and Thrive Capital.
