Report: Global carrier billing revenue expected to hit $24.7 billion in 2019

The report also reveals that, although the OS app stores will represent the biggest slice of carrier billing revenues by 2019, they accounted for only 14 percent in 2014.

Global carrier billing revenue is expected to increase to $24.7 billion in 2019 from the $14.5 billion the industry saw in 2014, according to a study from Ovum that was commissioned by carrier biller Neomobile.

The report, "Carrier Billing: Global Market Trends and Forecasts," gives an overview of the carrier billing market from its inception, gives a detailed description of the market’s dynamics and geographic highlights, and provides forecasts as to the future growth potential of the market, according to a press release about the report. It takes a close look at direct operator billing — a direct link between third parties and an operator’s billing system — and the role of aggregators in the market.

The report also reveals that, although the OS app stores will represent the biggest slice of carrier billing revenues by 2019, they accounted for only 14 percent in 2014. Segments such as online games, social media, independent retail and mobile content together currently make up the bulk of the market.

“I am pleased to announce our collaboration with Ovum on this report, which contains an encouraging growth forecast for global carrier billing revenue," Gianluca D’Agostino, chief executive of Neomobile, said in a statement. "Neomobile fundamentally believes in the value of carrier billing as a means to monetize the mobile Internet, and is ideally placed to take advantage of growth in this exciting and lucrative market."
