Report: Ant Financial pushes forward with MoneyGram approval
Ant Financial is not giving up its desire to purchase MoneyGram as the China-based financial services company reportedly plans to resubmit an application to acquire the money transfer firm, according to a report from Reuters.
The Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States is supposedly holding up the completion of the sale. Reuters described the committee as a "secretive government panel which reviews acquisitions by foreign entities for potential national security risks."
Reuters noted that a refiled application with the committee means there is more government scrutiny of such deals.
Ant Financial first announced its intention to buy MoneyGram in January for $880 million. At the time, the companies said the deal was expected to close in the second half of this year.
