Princess Cruises to accept WeChat Pay, Alipay at onboard Ruby Princess shops

Chinese tourists onboard Princess Cruises' Ruby Princess will be able to use WeChat Pay and Alipay to make purchases inside boutiques and gift shops, becoming the first passenger cruise lines to accept both mobile payment options in North America, according to a company release.

The cruise line in 2017 allowed guests to  use WeChat Pay and Alipay at gift shops onboard the Majestic Princess while the vessel was deployed in Shanghai, according to the release. The company said that ship was the first luxury vessel tailor made for the Chinese market.

WeChat Pay and Alipay are two of China's largest digital wallet services, with Alipay serving 900 million customers and WeChat Pay serving 800 million monthly active users, according to the release.
