Plastyc to introduce MRDC for prepaid cardholders

New York-based Plastyc, provider of UPside Visa prepaid cards, announced it will introduce mobile remote deposit capture, giving its un- and underbanked cardholders an alternative to check-cashing services — and the fees that come with them.

"Small businesses contribute 45 percent of the payroll in the U.S., but many of them still issue paper checks to their employees rather than offering direct deposit," said Patrice Peyret, CEO of Plastyc, provider of UPside Visa prepaid cards. "For unbanked and under-banked workers, having to go to a check cashing place twice a month is inconvenient and can be very costly."

Providing mobile check cashing to prepaid cardholders can present security concerns, said Peyret, but Plastyc was adding a number of fraud prevention steps not found in typical bank apps in order to address that issue.
