PayPal embraces Samsung's fingerprint tech
Company enables biometric authentication for its app on two new devices.
PayPal this week announced it expanded fingerprint authentication for its mobile app to the latest Samsung smartphones and devices: the new "phablet" Note 4 and the Gear S smartwatch. The company announced the partnership at Samsung's Unpacked Episode 2 event.
PayPal fingerprint authentication will be available on Note 4 in 27 countries worldwide, along with over $50 worth of offers to use at select businesses that accept PayPal.
The Gear S app will be available in eight markets including Australia, Brazil, Canada, Hong Kong, Mexico, the U.S. and the U.K.
Joel Yarbrough, PayPal's senior director of strategic partnerships and global solutions, wrote about the news in a company blog post.
"By giving more people the option to log in with their fingerprint to pay with PayPal, we're continuing to expand our efforts with the Fast IDentity Online Alliance to move more of the industry beyond passwords," he wrote.
