Payleven launches mPOS solution in France

The German mobile payments mPOS startup Payleven, which provides a wireless card reader that connects to mobile devices via Bluetooth, has launched a trial in France. The chip-and-PIN solution was already available in nine European countries.

The product will sell for €49 and is now available online through Apple stores and the company's website, with plans to sell it in Apple stores soon, the company said.

Payleven doesn't require monthly contracts and offers similar pricing as Square, whose European launch has been stymied by regulations that have thus far limited the European mPOS market.

Payleven is aimed at small and medium-sized business owners as well as individuals such as taxi drivers, restaurant owners and market vendors.

"Card payment is extremely popular in France. Fully 45 percent of all payment transactions are conducted via cards," Payleven founder and CEO Konstantin Wolff said in a news release. "Payleven wants to push this trend further and also enable all small and medium-sized businesses to accept card payments and to make the operation of their businesses easier and more efficient."
