No Square for gun, ammo sales

Mobile point of sale and wallet provider Square has said no to guns. According to CNN Money, the company has updated its terms of service and banned any retailer that sells "firearms, firearm parts or hardware, and ammunition; or ... weapons and other devices designed to cause physical injury" from using its solution.

The post said Square denied the move had anything to do with the debate over gun control and instead was simply a move to align company policies "to ensure they are consistent with [Square's] values and in the best interests of [Square's] customers."

The Square solution is designed to help small merchants by turning a mobile device into a portable credit card terminal, and it's a common sight at flea markets and street fairs. Presumably this decision will have an impact on at least a few of Square's two million merchants who might use the service to process cards at gun shows.
