Nigerian mobile money provider offers ticketing and transportation access

Nigeria's Fortis Mobile Money is working with one of that nation's largest transportation carriers, ABC Transport PLC, to offer mobile ticketing and payments.

According to a report on AllAfrica.com, travelers on ABC Transport routes in Nigeria and West Africa will be able to pay ticket costs and board buses using only their mobile phones.

Fortis Mobile Money is one of the growing number of licensed mobile money providers in Nigeria looking to address the country's high unbanked rate. Along with ticketing, users can top-up mobile airtime, transfer money and pay bills from their mobile devices.

Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation with more than 170 million people, has one of the highest unbanked percentages in the world. Nearly 80 percent of the country's population lacks access to basic financial services.
