New appMobi products aimed at making m-commerce safer, quicker

Mobile development company appMobi announced the release of its secure cloudKey authentication technology. The company also announced the new technology immediately integrates into appMobi's 1Touch payment system, giving mobile app users a more secure, streamlined m-commerce experience.

"AppMobi's engineers have long recognized that securing a centralized database is basically impossible — if it's online, it's vulnerable to break-in ... there's no way around it," said appMobi CTO Sam Abadir said in the announcement.

Abadir said the "distributed key" data model used by cloudKey is what makes the technology a "real breakthrough." A distributed key means means users' sensitive data is encrypted and stored on the devices, and only the decryption keys are stored in the cloud.

"(W)e don't store anything of value in a centralized database," Abadir said in the announcement, "so there is nothing of value online for thieves to steal." Abadir said that cloudKey eliminates tempting targets for hackers, and that were hackers able to steal the entire database and a user's device, the most they could get is one credit card number.

"It would be a huge expenditure of effort for very little gain," Abadir said. He added, "By keeping private data local on the device, cloudKey makes massive security losses like the recent 77 million account Sony PlayStation network breach impossible."

The company said that online security isn't the only benefit to its 1Touch payments system. The system also gives consumers a streamlined way to complete mobile and online purchases using a single touch, making the tedious task of entering information on a mobile device even simpler by leveraging the cloudKey authentication system.

"1Touch was designed to put the Web, whether mobile or desktop, on a level playing field with Apple's in-app purchasing system when it comes to e-commerce," said Abadir, adding that 1Touch can be used for purchasing digital or real goods and services. The company said 1Touch integrates with any payment gateway such as PayPal, Authorize.net and even direct carrier billing.
