MPOS provider payleven opens service for personal transactions

European mobile point-of-sale provider payleven is making electronic transactions easier and changing what it means to be a merchant and a consumer. With a new set of tweaks to its sign-up process, the company said it is implementing a paperless sign-up process and opening its solution to the general public and non-businesses.

"It is no secret that cashless payment is the future, and the democratization of card acceptance is a key element in this evolution," said Alston Zecha, COO and founder of payleven.

The first change implemented by payleven a new registration process that eliminates the need for merchants to submit copies of ID and proof of adress at registration. Instead, the new sign-up process uses an electronic ID check technology and reduces the time required to begin processing transactions from several days to almost immediately.

Additionally, payleven said it will begin offering private individuals the ability to sign up to process card payments. They'll be able to accept and process credit and debit cards for person-to-person payments.

"Today marks a major milestone for payleven on that journey (to payment democratization) as we have solved two longstanding problems faced by the payments industry: designing a simple, instant signup process and empowering individuals as merchants," Zecha said.

The new signup process and availability of services to private individuals will be offered by payleven immediately in the U.K. with other markets — Germany, Italy, theNetherlands, Poland and Brazil — rolling out the program shortly, the company said.
