Mopay signs carrier billing deal with SingTel

Mopay, a provider of cellphone and landline carrier billing payment services for online merchants, has signed an agreement with SingTel, one of Asia's largest telcos. The deal will allow SingTel customers to make purchases with Munich-based mopay's carrier billing technology through their mobile phones.

The SingTel agreement follows the opening by mopay of four offices in Asia, as part of its expansion in the region. Through the integration with SingTel, mopay said it will enable its merchant base to attract new consumers in the region who have very few means of payment available.

According to mopay, SingTel has fully embraced the mobile payment opportunity and has worked with mopay to allow carrier billing for purchases from its network of digital merchant partners. SingTel plans to extend this payment process to carriers within the group including Optus in Australia, Telkomcel in Indonesia, Thailand-based AIS, and Philippines-based Globe.

The mopay payment process involves a consumer selecting mopay when purchasing a digital or virtual item online. Once the consumer has provided a phone number and has been authenticated, the purchased amount is billed to the consumer's SingTel postpaid account. No registration or further information needs to be provided in order to successfully complete the transaction.

According to mopay, mobile carrier billing is one of the most important payment channels in the Asian region.

The company operates in more than 80 countries across the globe, reaching more than 4.3 billion consumers. The company's customers include brands such as Gameforge, Bigpoint, Valve and Wargaming.
