International direct carrier biller mopay has added an extended recurring billing feature to its global mobile payments platform, the company announced in a press release. With the new recurring option, online merchants who offer subscription-based services can offer consumers the ability to pay for their subscriptions via their mobile phone bills. Purchase can be automatically billed in daily, weekly or monthly cycles without further interaction needed.

Mopay said the new recurring billing option will be rolled out across the majority of its connected countries within the next year, but several clients are already using the feauture. The company said the new feature has especially resonated with online dating companies.

"Mopay’s recurring billing option opens up a new avenue for online merchants to combine their offers with an easy-to-use payment method while simultaneously expanding global reach," said company Managing Director Kolja Reiss. "As online content continues to grow, so does consumer demand; thus it behooves online merchants to offer their customers convenient, safe and fast payment solutions that make the purchase process easy, resulting in more completed transactions."

Reiss said that since mopay’s recurring billing option can be completely customized, nearly every online content producer can offer billing convenience to their customers. That ensures that revenue continues to be collected without putting the burden on consumers, he said.

Like mopay's other direct carrier billing services, users pay for recurring subscriptions at the checkout by entering their mobile numbers. A PIN to verify the purchase is texted back to that number. With recurring charges, the user is also informed on both the site's check-out page and the payment window that a recurring charge is being authorized, mopay said.

Mopay currently offers services in more than 80 countries connecting more than 400 wireless networks reaching more than 4.3 billion subscribers.
