Monitise piloting BlackBerry mobile money service in Indonesia

Monitise PLC has announced that it will collaborate with two other partners on the first mobile money and payments solution to be built on the BlackBerry Messenger platform. BBM Money will be piloted in Indonesia with the expectation of a wider rollout.

Partners in the BBM Money effort are Indonesia's PT Bank Permata Tbk and BlackBerry, along with PT AGIT Monitise Indonesia, a joint venture between Monitise Asia Pacific and Astra Graphia Information Technology.

Using BBM Money, BlackBerry users will be able to access a mobile money account from their smartphones to make real-time payments within BBM to their participating contacts, buy mobile airtime credit and transfer money to bank accounts.

"We see firsthand the appetite that consumers around the world have to manage their money on the move simply, safely and securely," said Monitise group chief executive Alastair Lukies.
