McDonald's is joining the club as the latest fast restaurant with plans to add an order-and-pay feature to its smartphone app.

McDonald's announced the feature as part of a new vision to put the customer at the center of the dining experience. The fast food chain also will enable customers to order food from a kiosk, which can access food and payment preferences saved on the mobile app.

McDonald's plans to roll out mobile order and pay in the fourth quarter.

"To bring customers into the restaurants, McDonald's must matter to people and be relevant in their daily lives," McDonald's President and CEO Steve Easterbrook said in a statement. "To do so, McDonald's is accelerating digital capabilities and enhancing its use of technology in restaurants, in the drive-thru and on the go."
