MasterCard, PayPal chat about potential partnership

A week after Visa struck an unprecendented deal with PayPal, MasterCard might be attempting to do the same.

MasterCard CEO Ajaypal Singh Banga said Thursday during the company's quarterly earnings call that the card network is holding "constructive dialogue" with PayPal, according to a report from the Financial Times.

"PayPal is actually working to resolve some of those concerns we all have,” he said. "This is actually a good thing for PayPal and for the industry because at the end of the day, providing consumers the ability of having seamless, simple ways of paying is good for all of us."

Visa's agreement with PayPal is intended to be exclusive for a 12-month period, so any MasterCard and PayPal marriage couldn't happen until next summer.
