Malauzai mobile app grows in popularity with community banks

Malauzai, a provider of mobile banking SmartApps for community banks and credit unions, reports rapid growth in customers and revenue in 2013. Revenue grew by 205 percent year on year, while community bank and credit union customers increased by 90 percent, the Austin, Texas-based company said.Malauzi bill pay tablet interface

Malauzai’s financial institution customer base expanded from 106 at the end of 2012 to 200 by the end of 2013, with 70 percent live with SmartApps, Robb Gaynor, Malauzai’s chief product officer, said in a press release.

By the end of 2013, SmartApps were in use by 207,000 registered users. Thirty-five percent of new customers were replacing first-generation mobile apps, Malauzai said, adding that its new mobile banking app for iPads is being used by 15 percent of active end-users at several banks and credit unions.

Malauzai attributes much of its growth to new products, such as the Picture Pay mobile photo bill pay product (pictured above), which was built in conjunction with Allied Payment Network and Mitek. Allied Payment Network is a provider of online and mobile bill payment services to the financial industry, while Mitek supplied its Mobile Photo Bill Pay technology to Malauzai.

Mitek’s Mobile Photo Bill Pay enables customers to pay bills by taking a picture with a smartphone or tablet camera. Data from the paper bill is extracted and used to populate the fields required for making a mobile payment. (Read about the collaboration between Allied Payment Network and Mitek here.)

Since its launch in January 2013, Picture Pay mobile photo bill pay has seen a 17-percent month over month increase in active end-users and 13 percent monthly growth in the number of items processed, Malauzai said.
