Latest Android malware targets mobile banking apps
The latest Android malware bugs targets 94 different mobile banking and payment apps, including the likes of American Express, PayPal and Santander, according to multiple media reports.
Fortinet, which develops and markets cybersecurity software, first spotted the virus, which is disguised as the Flash Player app. The malware in question overtakes an Android phone's full admin rights when its owner hits the activate button on the faulty app. The malware then sits in the background and waits for the owner to open the mobile banking and payment apps.
The bug is affecting Android smartphones in Europe and the U.S.
Media reports suggest that the malware also targets social media apps such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Snapchat and Twitter. The Trojan reportedly also can intercept text messages.
