Japanese bank intros Facebook money transfers

Rakuten Bank customers can send funds via the institution's mobile banking app.

Japanese-based Rakuten Bank this week introduced a feature within its mobile banking app that enables customers to send funds transfers to a Facebook friend, according to multiple reports.

Users launch the bank's app, select a Facebook friend as the recipient and then enter the amount for the transfer. Recipients do not need a Rakuten Bank announct to receive funds. But those users will need to visit a URL through a Facebook notification to specify a bank account to receive funds from the sender.

Users do not pay a fee if they send funds to Rakuten Bank customers who have linked their account to Facebook. A $1.60 fee applies on transfers to recipients who have not linked their Facebook account to the bank.
