Jaguar, Shell partner on in-car fuel payments

Jaguar has partnered with Shell in the U.K. to enable motorists to pay for fuel with Apple Pay or PayPal via an app on a touchscreen dashboard, according to multiple media reports.

The companies expect to roll out the service internationally throughout 2017 and will also add Android Pay support at some point.

"Rather than using a card at the pump, or queuing in the forecourt shop, owners who install the Shell app can simply drive up to any pump at a Shell service station — initially in the UK and then globally — and use the vehicle's touchscreen to select how much fuel they require and pay using Apple Pay or PayPal," Jaguar said in a statement.

In-car payments appear set to be a growing trend in 2017.

Last month, Honda and Visa demoed in-car payments at the annual Consumer Electronics Show.
