It's alive! Google Wallet gets turned on
According to the site SprintFeed, citing an internal memo from SprintNextel Corp., Google's Nexus S 4G smartphone on the Sprint wireless network is set to get a major software update on July 11. Among the enhancements listed on the memo, the new software "enables the NFC Secure Element." In other words, the Google Wallet is alive. Enabling the secure element effectively turns on the payment capabilities in the phone and allows account information to be stored on the phone so it can be accessed by the Google Wallet.
At its announcement in May, Google Inc. said trials for the Google Wallet would begin this summer in New York City and San Francisco with a nationwide rollout coming later in the year. This appears to be the next step in making the Google Wallet a reality.
