Isis adds card issuers Chase, Cap One and BarclayCard as partners

Isis Mobile Wallet ScreenshotIsis is adding more pieces to its mobile payment puzzle. The joint venture between AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile USA and Verizon Wireless announced three major card issuers – Chase, Capital One and Barclaycard – have agreed to enable their credit, debit and prepaid cards on the Isis Mobile Wallet. That means consumers with eligible cards issued from those FIs will be able to load those accounts into Isis' mobile wallet product to make NFC-enabled payments.

"Today’s announcement is testament to the vision and commitment of Chase, Capital One and Barclaycard to make mobile commerce a real and positive experience for their customers,” said Isis CEO Michael Abbott.

Abbot said mobile commerce is more than a new way to pay but is about extending the relationships consumers enjoy with banks and merchants into a powerful and convenient new form factor.

Formed in November 2010 by three of the "big four" U.S. wireless carriers – only Sprint opted out, choosing to partner with Google on its Google Wallet –  Isis has slowly built out a network of partners to help it make its mobile contactless payment product a reality. The JV signed the four major credit card brands last year, partnered with a mobile wallet provider, engaged a trusted services management provider, and gained support from handset manufacturers.

Now with major issuers on board, Isis is one step closer to actually getting its mobile wallet into the hands of consumers.

"Chase is committed to making mobile commerce a reality,” said Chase Card Services president Richard Quigley. "By working with Isis, we are excited to help pave the way for innovation in the mobile payments space and to provide cardmembers with a secure option for easier and faster payments on the go."

Today's announcement is an example of how Isis is pursuing an open approach to its mobile wallet product. Isis said the experience for cardholders within the Isis wallet will be controlled by the card issuers to "reflect their respective brands and ensure a seamless and secure experience across physical cards and mobile platforms."

The Isis Mobile Wallet is scheduled to launch in Salt Lake City and Austin by midyear with a national rollout after that.
